There is, at least for me, something continuously mysterious about the Tarot cards.  I’ve tried many times over the years to learn to interpret them.  A huge drawback, for me and for many others, is the overwhelming
amount of memorization that seems to be needed.  It took me a long time to learn that while there are some “set” interpretations, the Tarot is all about using intuition; instinct.  No two people will ever interpret a card
the same way.
If I had to give advice on learning to read the cards, I would say take it one step at a time.  While the steps will be similar in many books, or websites, follow them in a way that makes sense to you.  You will be the

important factor in any reading you do.  Tarot cards must make sense to you, in order to make sense to the person wanting, or needing the reading.

I found that building a working knowledge of numbers, colors and suits is over half the lesson.  Learning that Aces relate to beginnings, and individuality, whereas the number six relates to harmony and cooperation is very useful information.  Just knowing numbers helps to “read” each card individually, as each card has a number, and in terms of the numbered position of the card.  Add that to knowledge of colors and suits in the same manner and soon you’ll have a measurable toolkit in reading tarot cards.

The key is patience.  Do not be too eager to learn everything.  There are many books available, but opt for ones that describe the processes in reading the cards, not ones that offer pages and pages of interpretations. The more time you spend with your deck, the more comfortable you will feel.  It is not a science, it’s an Art.  Mystery surrounds the Tarot Cards today, as much as yesterday.  If all it took was to memorize interpretations the mystery would not exist.   If used properly, much insight can be revealed.  Whether it is for you, or for others, tarot reading can open many doors, some of which wouldn’t ordinarily be found.
